We found this restaurant on a whim. Had other plans in mind but they didn't pan out.
Went in and I was pleasantly surprised by the kitschy decor and maritime music. I loved it!
My husband had the pickerel and said it tasted exactly like home (northern Ontario). I had the halibut and chips. Both were amazing. We barely said a word to each other while we ate! Definitely going to tell everyone about this place and we'll be back! -

I've just come back from England so what I am basing my review on might not be what the average Canadian would base it on. The chips were good, thick and crispy but I'd prefer them double fried to get that traditional crispy on the outside soft on the inside chip shop type chips. The coleslaw was just plain inedible (I've been several times hoping
I just got a bad batch but after talking to the waitress I think this is just their recipe). The coleslaw is very acidic and always tastes like it's fermented or something. It's not your creamy mayo type coleslaw or your vinegar type. It's something in between but next time I'll just ask them to not bring it because now I realize this is just how they do it. You might love it.
I had the two pieces of cod for $22 which seemed like a good deal. It just was a bit flavourless and the batter was a little doughy. Maybe next time I'll have the halibut but after several tries I'm putting the cod and chips to rest.
My dad is English and he loves this place, he always gets the halibut though so maybe that's the trick.
The waitress was very nice, however, I think because I was so early she was still setting up and didn't come to ask how things were till it was over. -

The hubby and family always rave about this place, so I finally got to check it out today! We got there around 4 and the place was packed inside already. We wanted to sit outside anyways, but I have no idea what the inside of the restaurant looks like (I heard its small inside). I do have to say, the patio out front was great for people watching (lots of traffic).
It was a little snug out on the patio with a handful of picnic tables. They didn't have the umbrellas set up out there yet, so it was a tad sunny/hot, but tolerable.
I'm not sure if it was because it was Good Friday, or if its like this everday around dinner, but boy did it get busy and people were literally fighting over tables!!!!!
Everyone ordered fish and chips of somesort, and I ordered the shrimp wrap. It was fresh tasting, although there were maybe only about 5 shrimp in my wrap, and they were tiny!!! I got chipotle sauce in my wrap, but you do have the choice of a bbq sauce as well. The fries that came with the meal were fantastic. I also did have a couple bites of the hubbies cod and it was really good!
They do takeout/delivery now which is awesome!!
Like other reviewers said, parking at this restaurant is a (insert curse word here)!! Honestly, you are better off just parking on the street!! -

Wednesday night treat, turned out to be a disaster.
It was not the first time we ate at this restaurant.
The fish was reduced in size from previous times, French fries were stale probably retried and mostly burnt. Very disappointing, we will never eat at " Cat's Fish & Chips again!!!
Definitely will not recommend this restaurant. -

Fantastic fish and chips! I've been wanting to try this place, and it did not disappoint!
It's located in quite a random area in St. Laurent/Gloucester, and its a small restaurant.
There are a lot of nautical decorations which makes eating here an experience.
Waitresses are very professional and efficient.
I tried the classic fish and chips (haddock, beer batter), which came with coleslaw (quite bland, not as sour as I like), tartar sauce (which I LOVED), crispy and fluffy thick cut fries, and a HUGE piece of fish.
I don't know how people can finish 2 pieces, but 1 was more than enough for me. The fish was SUPER fresh, and the batter was not too thick.
Although there was a lot of oil, it did not feel as oily when eating it.
I also tried the calamari which was VERY tender, and had a thin batter. Plum sauce was an interesting choice to go along with it, but tasted good.
Overall a great choice if you are craving fish and chips!
